چکیده

Cocaine abuse is a widespread social problem with many well-recognized complications. These include cardiac, cerebrovascular and gastrointestinal events. Cocaine may effect a severe vasoconstriction, and its potential to induce severe side effects, because of this pharmacological action, are well recognized. In the abdomen the development of ischaemic strictures in both the small and large bowel may occur. However, the latter is seldom reported and only one case report relating to the radiological literature could be found on Medline and Embase literature searches. We recently encountered a patient with a strong history of heavy cocaine and “crack” cocaine use, who presented with abdominal pain of unknown origin. Radiological investigation showed a colonic stricture to be the cause of his symptoms. This was resected and subsequent histology revealed this to be an ischaemic stricture, thought to be related to his cocaine abuse.

Long ischaemic stricture of the interposed colon.

A case is reported of a long segment stricture in a colonic oesophageal replacement with radiographic evidence to support the diagnosis of ischaemia. Ischaemia of the substitute organ following oesophageal resection is a well recognised, serious complication that usually results in anastomotic leakage. If the anastomosis heals primarily, late manifestations of ischaemia are rare.

Spontaneous Perforation of Rectosigmoid Colon

Spontaneous perforation of the sigmoid colon or rectom is defined as a sudden perforation of the colon in the absence of diseases such as tumors, diverticulosis or external injury. It is a very rare finding, and if neglected, results in severe peritonitis and high mortality. The causes of this rare condition are numerous, and in this case it might be due to the chronic constipation induced by a...

Endoscopic Balloon Dilatation of NSAID-Induced Sigmoid Diaphragm-Stricture

A less common but increasingly recognized complication of NSAIDs use is thin mucosal “diaphragm-like” strictures that were initially reported in the small intestine and have been reported with increased incidence in the colon. A patient with osteoarthritis, chronic low back pain, and overuse of different types of NSAIDs suppositories developed “diaphragm” like stricture in the sigmoid colon. Sh...
